Fincantieri Marinette Marine, a Fincantieri Marine Group Company, is a progressive shipyard specializing in building ships for the United States Navy. We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Technical Specialist at our Marinette, Wisconsin location.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Technical Specialist purpose is to solve technical problems, develop applicable documentation, and supervise all assigned resources to support the assigned projects. The Senior Technical Specialist assists the Project Engineer in determining the technical requirements of the project, defining resource requirements to achieve schedule and budget commitments, and solving technical issues as they arise within the field of competence. The Senior Technical Specialist is able to conceptualize the vessels navigation and communications systems for compliance to international regulatory and customer specific requirements. This position offers an opportunity to develop some of the world's most highly integrated and complex solutions, the ability to work on multiple unique applications, the ability to provide technical oversight and guidance over multiple programs, and the opportunity to mentor upcoming engineers.

The Senior Technical Specialist will be assigned to projects that require specific engineering expertise ranging from working on Bid and Proposals to working as the representative on technical issues. In these positions the Senior Technical Specialist may be required to provide input to project scheduling, process improvement, affordability initiatives, specific engineering investigations and design innovations. These tasks may include working closely with the shipyard's government and commercial customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work independently in solving technical issues
  • Plan, estimate, schedule and monitor assigned work and the work of assigned resources
  • Track and report progress to budget and schedule commitments
  • Supervise assigned resources
  • Facilitate communications of issues and solutions throughout the organization
  • Prepare, check and issue professional quality deliverables
  • Interpret contract requirements
  • Develop contract change documents to support the project needs
  • May be required to define, track and control subcontractor activities
  • Support development and use of a requirements traceability matrix (RTM) to drive system design efforts.
  • Support conceptual development of architectures for complex systems and subsystems relating to power electronics, drives and uninterruptible power supplies.
  • Create the technical documentation and budget estimates for bid and proposals.
  • Generate system level documentation.
  • Provide guidance and direction to less experienced system and design engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership on medium projects, able to identify and delegate tasks to an engineering team.
  • Utilize experience to support critical design reviews, providing insight at a system as well as a component level.
  • Work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Lead an effort to identify alternative design and production standards, systems, or equipment
  • Assess technical, cost, and risk impacts
  • Abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Attend or lead meetings which are established and supported with internal engineering and external FMM suppliers/customers to provide status and assist in assigned project completion.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Indirectly supervises assigned (matrixed) engineering resources responsible for project completion, but may directly supervise one or more other employees. Supervisory responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
