Platform Engineer Intern

Job Summary:

The Platform Engineer Intern is an important member of the Network and Data Center team and works as a resource to the Technology Platform organization. Within this role, the intern will support our fellow Partners by managing various network tasks and activities along with being a resource for process management, process improvement, daily networking tasks, information systems and metrics. This position is year-round, accommodating a part-time schedule during the school year and full-time during breaks and summer. This position may also lead to full-time employment upon graduation for the superior performer.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Network and Data Center Support (70%)
    • Provide day to day operational ownership of a subset of IT Infrastructure platforms and applications
    • Create and maintain operational system documentation.
    • Perform required maintenance and updates.
    • Seek to identify, investigate, resolve, and document resolution of system problems.
    • Repair and recover from software or hardware failures and test procedures regularly.
    • Assist Platform Engineers in establishing, maintaining and enforcing system standards.
    • Provide level two escalation support on server/systems related tickets
  • Process Improvement and Documentation (20%)
    • Assist the team in the development of new standards and expand existing standards for the team
    • Document technical systems and end-user self-help guidelines
  • Research (10%)
    • Research new technologies and make cost appropriate recommendations

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Networking/Data Center or related degree program
  • Knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems and applications
  • Knowledge of Linux and other open source products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Knowledge of Scripting Language / Development Tools

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with AWS, Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, Active Directory, SharePoint, VMware and/or IIS is a plus
  • Security minded, technology awareness
  • Currently enrolled as a Freshman or a Sophomore
