Job/Internship Description

Location: Hershey, PA

Duration: Summer 2020

The Hershey Company is seeking a summer intern to manage and support small-to-medium sized projects related to food safety and product quality. The position will require working in both corporate and plant environments. This is an excellent opportunity to gain meaningful experience in the food industry.

Overview of Internship and Potential Projects

    • Lead Food Safety and Quality Improvement Projects
    • Support innovation projects
    • Support capacity expansion projects
    • Develop new and update existing specifications
    • Map processes to improve reliability
    • Provide assistance with gathering data/information
    • Evaluate software applications
    • Develop training materials
    • Support root cause analysis, corrective action, and preventive action steps
    • Manage own projects as well as support other Quality Specialists

Required Skills

    • Strong analytical skills, problem solving skills and excellent interpersonal skills
    • Verbal and written communication skills are critical in this assignment
    • Strong computer skills
    • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel
    • Able to effectively address all levels within the organization
    • Strong influencing and leadership skills with the ability to challenge decisions and facilitate change
    • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with and influence the decision making of senior management
    • Exemplary organizational skills
    • Ability to respond to a diversity of requests
    • Must be detailed oriented
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to travel to various manufacturing sites
    • The successful candidate must be capable of working independently after receiving direction
    • **Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) while working in the production (and office) areas

Requirements

  • Enrolled in college, pursuing a degree
  • Preferred declared majors are food science, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, packaging engineering, or a similar discipline
  • A minimum overall GPA of 2.8 is required, an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred
  • Reliable transportation
